The Spiritualist on Miller Street is known for its exciting & inventive cocktails so I was more than happy to visit & try some from their new drinks menu! The building is modern but relaxed & this is reflected in their quality, well constructed beverages. You can read about my last visit here.
To start we tried a teapot cocktail to share. This gin based mix has a summery feel with the mixed berries & hint of tea… I guess it’s a dry-iced tea if you get what I mean? I’m a sucker for a gimmick but the cooling effect of the dry ice makes this drink something really special!
Phileas Fogg’s World Tour: Pink London Gin, Rinquinquin, berry tea reduction, Indian tonic, lime & peach bitters. Stirred down & served with dry ice for effect.
Another summery, pretty drink followed, the Sevillised. Wow, what pretty foam art, it was like drinking an orange rose! The homemade basil syrup used offset the bitter grapefruit to make this a wonderfully enjoyable cocktail.
Sevillised: Gin, homemade basil syrup & pink grapefruit juice shaken & fine strained. Topped with an orange & Cointreau foam.
Negronis aren’t for everyone but I think they should be, especially if they taste chocolate oranges! This was a great drink for sipping & the orange & cocoa nibs became more flavourful with each drink.
Smoked Chocolate Negroni: Nuestra Soledad Mezcal, orange & cocoa nibs infused Campari, sweet vermouth & chocolate bitters.
Saving the best for last, The Wild Mountain Thyme was my favourite drink of the night. This was like an Old Fashioned x 100. A hollow ice ball filled with Scottish heather smoke sits on top & you are served this with a spoon to crack the ice & release the aroma. Scent is an integral part of taste & the pleasant smokiness makes this a truly pleasant experience.
Wild Mountain Thyme: Mount Gay Black Barrel rum, Wild Turkey 101, whiskey barrel bitters & homemade thyme syrup. Served with an ice ball filled with Scottish heather smoke.
Thanks again to The Spiritualist for having me & I can’t wait to return. (Especially for the Wild Mountain Thyme!)
